Jesus and Church

Our desire at Victory Church Leek is for us all to have a deeper relationship with Jesus and that we would have a greater love of His church.

The Purpose of Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ came to give light to the world and, among many other reasons, to reveal our Heavenly Father to us. In Jesus, we see who God is and we see God’s character and nature.

What Jesus Christ Did and Will Do

God created the universe, the galaxies, the stars, the earth, and everything in the earth and He upholds everything by the Word of His power.
One of the things He holds together is the new creation. Believers in Jesus Christ are part of the new creation and are the beginning of all things being restored to God. The fullness of God was in Jesus and Jesus is what holds us all and everything together.

Jesus Christ first came in meekness and in servanthood - to die on the cross to atone for our sin so that we might be reconciled to our Heavenly Father.
A person who puts their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour is reconciled to God as a son or daughter into the family of God and saved to eternal life.

Jesus Christ, when He comes again, will return to us in glory, power and proclamation.
There is an ultimate purpose that God is going to gather together in one, all things in Jesus Christ, which are in heaven and which are on earth.

Jesus Christ is Head of the Church

In the book of Ephesians 1:22-23 the apostle Paul tells us that God gave Jesus Christ to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.”

The fullness of Jesus is in His church and that is how Jesus now fills the earth, is in, through, and by His church. The church is Christ’s body in which He speaks and acts and by which He fills everything with His presence. The body of believers is Christ’s body here on earth. Just as there are many members to a body, there are many members in the body of Christ and all are worthy and have a valued part to play.

When we come together, in the unity of the Spirit, the bond of peace, and in the faith of Jesus Christ, we experience a powerful expression of the unconditional love of the Father in our lives and those around us.

That is what causes you and I to commit to assembling together, because we are greater together than we are alone.
Every believer is a part of the body of Christ, His church here on earth.
God’s purpose in His church is to reveal His wisdom to the world.

The Church is Called Out

The Greek word for church is “Ekklesia” which means called out. God doesn’t call us out and leave us there, but God calls us into relationship with Himself and with each other to then go and occupy. God did not call Israel out of Egypt to find another god or be a god unto themselves, but He called Israel out of Egypt to Himself to send them into a promised land that flowed with milk and honey. God has called us out to be in relationship with Himself and with each other, and sends us back in to occupy the world to be salt and light, and to make a huge difference.

The church is not the building. We need the building, we thank God for the building and we sanctify the building, but the church is not brick, mortar and roof tiles.
The church is not of itself an organisation or a denomination or any one individual.
The church is the many members of the body of Christ, of which Christ is the Head.
The church is the body of Christ - of which you and I, as true believers, are part!

Jesus Christ is the Hope of the World

Jesus Christ is the hope of the world in, and through, and by His Church.
Now – we have a reason to assemble, to praise and worship the Lord, to hear and receive the Word of God, to walk in the love of God, to forgive one another, and love one another.
